Vibestyle Picks: Top 5 Kicks of 2017

Posted by Eugene Shahrezaey in Fashion

We are only three months into 2017, and already, we have been spoilt with an impressive range of new trainers. It’s no myth that demand has been exceeding the supply of certain trainers from giants, Adidas and Nike, especially with the rise of the limited-edition brand collaborations, such as the Bape x Adidas NMD_R1.

In this post, I’ll be putting together what we believe to be the top 5 trainers of the current year so far.

  1. Nike Air Huarache Run Ultra

huarache-run-ultra

The first trainer on the list is the Nike Air Huarache Run Ultras, for the past few years, Nike’s Air Huaraches have been dominating the shoe game, playing its role as an essential piece for your collection.

Regarding performance, the trainer has proven to be very comfortable with lightweight materials to ensure you can wear these in any terrain, for however long you need. The trainer has also been known for its excellent durability and traction.

This edition complies to the Huarache range’s traditional visual appearance, and the slight high top enables it to be worn with anything, whether it be a pair of jeans for a night out, or a pair of utility trouser whilst you’re on the grind.

Price: Average £100 (men’s)

  1. Nike Air Presto

Next up, the Nike Air Presto, is an unconventionally modern looking trainer which has become successful on the market of urban fashion. The trainer’s dynamic look, with stretchable mesh allows for a comfortable wear on your feet, but at the same time, a stylish look with almost any outfit.

Price: Average £90 (men’s)

  1. Puma Ignite Limitless

Number three on the list would be the new and exciting, Puma Ignite Limitless. The Puma Limitless has only recently been released. Seen on R&B singer, The Weeknd, Puma have been carrying on their brand revitalisation, switching into a more respectable brand on the urban market, and the Puma Limitless reflects that perfectly.

The trainer’s performance is specified to be ideal for running with its modern technology, but at the same time, hosting the ‘design mentality and attitude of modern streetwear’.

Price: Average £90 (men’s)

  1. Adidas Ultra Boost

The runner up position in this top 5 belongs to the Adidas Ultra Boost – this trainer has very quickly become a phenomenon in the market, its simple design and lightweight materials allow it to be worn with almost anything.

The trainer is capable of high durability even in the toughest of terrains, one feature that appears outstanding is it’s STRETCHWEB feature, which Adidas states is the rubber outsole which flexes underfoot for an energised ride. Similarly, it’s TOROSION® SYSTEM enables it’s wearer to have a locked down fit.

Price: Average £130 (men’s)

  1. Adidas NMD_R1

Finally, the number one trainer in this top 5 falls to the Adidas NMD_R1. The trainer has had a successful start in the market, constantly ending up out of stock due to an immense demand. Adidas state that they’ve borrowed inspiration from high-end tech outerwear and combined it with their experience in urban street wear, which resulted in a construction of beauty.

The NMD R1’s initially kicked off by releasing certain colourways for particular countries, such as France’s Beige edition, which is a personal favourite, I must say so myself. The NMD R1’s of today now come with a shiny, reflective three stripes on the side of the trainer.

These have got to be the winner due to their high comfort, stylish appearance, quality, and high suitability with any fit.

Price: Average £100 (men’s)

Ones To Watch: Power Returns

The return of Power is coming and the excitement is immense. Anyone not familiar with this Starz drama…you need to be. Executively produced by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson and created by Courtney Kemp Agboh this original show is arguably one of the best shows out now. Also, one of my favourite shows ever it includes all the best aspects from your most entertaining shows. Themes of violence, lust, brotherhood, societal issue and much more run throughout, these concepts mixed with a well written script enhances the rawness and relatability with the characters, moreover building a relationship between the viewer and characters, building an emotional connection with their lives.

Power became available on Netflix UK on July 18th 2016 starting with the first two seasons and season 3 was released an episode a week every Monday, these are all now available for viewing. If you’re looking for a new show to binge watch this is perfect for you, the gripping storylines throughout keep you in high anticipation for next episode. Which brings me on to season 4 after a long wait and an unexpected end to season 3, like other fans of the show, we were gassed to see the release announcement and the teaser trailer.

Anyone who hasn’t seen this programme I highly recommend It you will be gripped from the outset. Also, they are 45mins long meaning they are the perfect Netflix binge watch with quality actors, directing and stories you can’t go wrong. Thank me later.

Fantasy is coming to reality as Netflix announce the release of their Netflix original movie, Bright.

The movie will star Will Smith and Joel Edgerton and is set to hit our screens in December 2017.

Today the Twitter account dedicated to ‘Bright’, released a 30 second clip, revealing scenes both trilling and subliminal in what looks like a fantasy action packed movie.

Not much has been spilled yet, but we know Smith will play the role of a Cop, fighting crimes that include magic and the supernatural.

The Bright film will be available to watch via Netflix only at the end of the year.

Wireless Festival 2017: Explosion of a Lineup

Posted by Eugene in Music

It’s definitely that time of year again when Wireless Festival release the official lineup of  acts which will uplift Finsbury Park on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of July – and it’s safe to say the massive lineup will be one of the best yet! Headlining acts of the triple Grammy-winning, Chance the Rapper (Friday), Boy Better Know’s very own, Skepta (Saturday), and Ontario’s finest, The Weeknd (Sunday) prove that this years festival will be a difficult not to go for the whole weekend.

wireless-festival-2017-line-up-1487801142Full of exciting acts, standard tickets are as follows…

Friday – £55; Saturday – £62; Sunday £62

As we’re aware, Friday and Saturday’s lineups are currently awaiting the announcement of a special guest for each day, who do you think we’re waiting to see on the finished lineup?

Last years Wireless Festival had no doubt an exceptional lineup, with headliners Calvin Harris, J. Cole, Boy Better Know, etc. I’m confident you’ll agree with me when I say Finsbury Park was an A-1 scene over that weekend.

For me, Sunday is a winner at the moment, with the lineup evidently looking strong with Nas, and Tory Lanez accompanying headlining act, The Weeknd. Which day seizes you’re interest the most?

New Music: Countdown to a Storm

Posted by Meddy in Music

The final countdown has begun only 5 days till Stormzy’s long awaited first album ‘Gang Signs & Prayers’ and much like a lot of people around the UK we can’t wait.

Stormzy has only recently come back from a 9 month social media blackout , which he used to focus on this new project, and he as come back with a bang, releasing single Big For Your Boots from the album and it has managed to reach over 6m views in under two weeks. This illustrates the influence he has on the culture and the level of devotion from his fans.

With other recent releases from popular artists such as Nines, Dave and AJ Tracey the expectation from the scene is massive, moreover this support show how big the grime scene has become displaying positive moments, hopefully it will continue with this album being successful.

I’ll leave the tracklist below, we’ll all be counting down to the release.

New Releases from The Weeknd

Posted by Eugene in Music

As some fans will know, it was The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye’s birthday yesterday. Simultaneous to the event, the XO singer released the music video for his Starboy album hit -‘Reminder’. The music video was initially promoted via The Weeknd’s Instagram.

happy birthday to XO. Here's a little gift. "Reminder" music video… link in bio 🏌️🏌️🏌️

A post shared by The Weeknd (@theweeknd) on

The music video has proven to be a hit with 4.7million views already, and can be found here:

If you have seen the music video, you will know what I am talking about when I say there was plenty of interesting visuals, as well as the feature of several hip hop artists such as Travis Scott, ASAP Rocky, YG, and many more. Not to forget Drake, who supposedly had fallen out with The Weeknd up until recently, perhaps?

The Weeknd has also has recently featured on a new track, released with Nav, who also features on the ‘Reminder’ video, and soon will be signing with XO record label. The track, named ‘Some Way’ was released on Wednesday, and seems to be rising in the charts.

The Weeknd also starts the European leg of his Legend of the Fall tour today in Stockholm. Is there more to come from The Weeknd  in the near future? Let us know what you think.

Vibestyle Picks: Favourite Albums

2016 was no doubt a great year for urban music, from start to finish. In this post, we will each be having our say about our favourite albums of the year.

Travis Scott – Birds in The Trap Sing McKnight (Bijan)

The second album to be released by Travis Scott, it was released September 2nd of last year. The album includes some quality features including Bryson tiller, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage, Young Thug and many more.

The album includes the three hit singles, Wonderful (ft. The Weeknd), Pick Up The Phone (ft. Young Thug), and Goosebumps. During the debut, Scott’s album hit number one in the Billboard top 200, selling 53,000 copies in the first week.

Prior to Birds in The Trap’, Travis Scott released Rodeo in 2015, and is set to release his new project in 2017, ‘Astro World’. But will the album live up to the artist’s latest success?

Chance the Rapper – Coloring Book (Medphill)

My favourite album of 2016, in a year of greats, must be Coloring Book by independent recording artist Chance the Rapper. He has been recognised by many notable artist as an up and coming artist in the genre.

Chance had a lot of pressure to be successful with this project after the success of his mixtape Acid Rap released in 2013, which received critical acclaim it debuted 63rd on the billboard top R&B/Hip-Hop charts and reaching over 1,000,000 downloads on mixtape site Datpiff alone. Also with features from artists like Childish Gambino, Kanye West and Action Bronson the expectations were high. Despite all the pressure Chance did not disappoint with coloring considering it was only available for streaming and was not up for commercial sale it gained global success, even resulting in Chance the Rapper winning a Grammy for his achievements this year.

Furthermore, he brought big name features such Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Jeremih, Future, Lil Yachty and many more, in this project he managed to bring in aspects from Acid Rap while being a breath of fresh air for the industry and consumers through his use of different production style reminiscent of old school Kanye West. Chance the Rapper is going to be a dominant force in the industry in time to come.

Tory Lanez – I Told You (Eugene)

For me, it was a hard decision to make, but I would have to choose Tory Lanez’ debut album – I Told You. The album, released, August 19th reached 2nd in the US top Hip hop and R&B albums (Billboard, 2016). The Toronto born rapper had no features on the album which is rare to see nowadays, with his single ‘Say It’ being awarded with platinum certification.

What I think made this album special was the innovation in it being a concept album, meaning that it told a story throughout with the skits. This added to the effect of Lanez’s work, leaving us with an audio masterpiece. It is evident that Tory has been busy in the studio with the recent double mixtape release of Chixtape 4 and The New Toronto 2. What has he got in store for this year?

Honorable Mentions:

  • The Weeknd – Starboy
  • Drake – Views
  • Kanye West – The Life of Pablo
